Celebrity Cruises has announced the cancellation of the remainder of its seven-night Alaskan cruise after experiencing a mechanical issue with its propulsion system. The ship, originally scheduled to depart from Los Angeles, California to Vancouver, Canada before beginning its Alaska cruise season, was forced to return to Ketchikan, Alaska after losing power.
Celebrity Cruises has apologized for the inconvenience caused to its passengers and is working to arrange for their return to their home destinations. The passengers will be disembarking the ship in Ketchikan, and the cruise line is making arrangements for flights and other transportation.
The mechanical issue that caused the cancellation of the cruise is still under investigation. Celebrity Cruises has stated that the safety of its passengers is its top priority, and that it will not resume operations until the issue has been resolved.
